We’re Hiring!

Jul 16, 2018

Exago has been doing a great deal of growing recently, with staff size nearly doubling in the past year. Some of this success can be attributed to the flourishing business intelligence industry, which is predicted to grow to $22.8 billion by 2020, but that certainly isn’t the whole story.

I joined Exago with an M.A. in English after a tumultuous two years in publishing and sales. I wasn’t just looking for a career change—I was looking for a paradigm shift. I wanted to feel challenged in my work and like I was actually making some sort of an impact. I wanted to learn some “hard” skills in an environment that wouldn’t scorn me for only having soft ones. I wanted to solve difficult problems and be surprised when it was time to go home.

Two years later, I can say without hesitation that I got those things, and our Glassdoor reviews will confirm that I’m not the only one.

To paint an even clearer picture of what it’s like to work at Exago, we asked employees a few additional questions about their experience at the company. We invite anyone interested in our current openings to get in touch with questions!

Moderating a panel at the 2017 Client Advisory Board meeting really allowed me to interact with a large group of our clients in a way I hadn't to date. I really enjoyed watching everyone in the audience as we talked through complicated use cases and issues together.

The Location

Shelton is really convenient. There are restaurants, gyms, stores, markets, and other useful facilities within 2-5 minutes in any direction. It makes it convenient to be able to run errands right after work or during a lunch break if needed.

Being voted the top embedded BI solution by G2Crowd. Our competitors have raised more than a billion dollars to build their solutions and we win 70% of the competitive deals!

Additional Thoughts

Exago feels like a family. Love the people I work with.

Ability to add features to the product that can have a direct impact on our clients.  If I had to pick one thing, I would say adding Linux support has been the most rewarding.

Favorite Company Quirk

I wouldn't consider it much of a quirk, but the enthusiasm and excitement of everyone working here.  I like the approachability of everyone and the sense of community. People here tend to be very inclusive, and there is no sense that anyone has a more important role than anyone else.

The Location

It's great here in Kingston. I like the feeling of being part of a growing company in a city that is heavily investing in the future.

Finishing the basic video training series was pretty great. I had ownership of the project from the beginning, and being able to drive and complete a project that has had such an impact on our client base is a fantastic feeling. Side note, every so often I'll get on a call and a client will recognize my voice from the videos, so that's pretty fun too!

The Work

Everything I do matters. I'm not just another underling; I make my schedule, my bosses trust my judgment and allow me to work in a flexible manner. I also get to bring my dog to work!

How quickly people flip from one side of the interview process (as interviewee) to the other (as participant in group interviews).

Additional Thoughts

Great place. Nothing like it that I've seen in my 25+ years in the biz.

One the most rewarding experiences any software engineer has is seeing their code in use. For me, seeing our Top N feature work for the first time and then having it in production were extremely satisfying.

The Work

Getting to work on a new feature and to do it in my own way.

That even though I work in California I still feel part of the family and feel as if I am working in the office daily. The jokes are all the same no matter where I am located.

Additional Thoughts

Exago means family, not just for the employees but we treat all of our customers as if they are part of the family. That is why Exago is not just a great place to work but a great place to learn and grow and impact people all around the globe daily. It is a place where you can do the best work of your life daily and enjoy every moment of it.

I would say my most rewarding moment is watching a recently onboarded Sales team member win their first deal. It shows the training process and ongoing internal support was correctly executed to ensure success.

Favorite Company Quirk

I'd say our internal sock competition is definitely a crowd pleaser.

It is the fact that non-management has a say in hiring and the direction of the company.

The Work

New challenges. I love puzzles. And, every day is just another series of challenging puzzles.

I find it amusing how quickly your inbox fills up almost daily with positive "reply alls" from everyone in the company whenever anyone does something interesting in, and sometimes even outside, of work. This actually just happened as I was typing this.

The Location

Working in Uptown Kingston makes it convenient to walk to the gym or to grab lunch or even do some shopping during my break. It is also nice that the area is safe and walkable, so that if I need a breath of fresh air or to get out of my chair for a bit I can go for a walk in town.

I love working on improving the performance of our software! The challenge of rewriting code to run faster is always really rewarding for me. Just this week I was able to speed up a commonly used method by ~40%, which I know is going to be a noticeable change for many people who rely on our product every day. That's a pretty great feeling!

The Location

Kingston is in the perfect spot between city and nature.
