13 Embedded BI Experts to Read and Follow

Last summer, we published a short list of lesser-known experts and analysts we felt were particularly worth going to for embedded BI advice. This year, we’ve expanded that list to include some bigger names and other notables we missed the first time around. Our thanks to all of them for their contributions to the field and for the guidance they continue to provide to SaaS companies in search of embedded analytics solutions.

 

 

Martin Butler

With a background in theoretical physics and quantum mechanics, Martin Butler made waves in the BI world with the founding of Butler Group, which was “Europe’s largest indigenous IT analyst firm until its acquisition by Datamonitor in 2005.” These days, he leads Butler Analytics in its efforts to help businesses optimize and automate their decision making. His company’s blog features topical discussions on BI, thought leadership on analytics news, and solution reviews.

 

 

Howard Dresner

Howard Dresner is founder and Chief Research Officer of Dresner Advisory Services, which provides an alternative perspective on information management, business intelligence, and related markets through the objective, non-sponsored and crowd-sourced Wisdom of Crowds® industry research. Wayne Eckerson

Wayne has been a thought leader in the business intelligence and analytics field since the early 1990s. He is a sought-after consultant, noted speaker and bestselling author who thinks critically, writes clearly and presents persuasively about complex topics. His research and consulting firm, Eckerson Group, focuses on serving the needs of business intelligence (BI) and analytic leaders in Fortune 2000 organizations worldwide. His business analytics research is freely available and well worth the read.

 

 

Boris Evelson

Vice President and Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, Boris Evelson has over 30 years’ experience in the BI and analytics sector. He’s a frequent contributor to Forrester’s Application Development and Delivery blog, where he delivers succinct, exacting analyses of BI trends, predictions, and practices. He recently co-authored a report titled The New Generation Of Embedded BI Will Close The Insights-To-Action Gap, which provides “practical advice on embedded BI approaches, best practices, and technologies.”

 

 

Cindi Howson

Cindi Howson is a member of the Gartner Blog Network, where she writes not just about BI but also more general interest topics, such as women in technology. Jorge García

With over 20 years’ experience in application development, database design, and data warehousing, Jorge García leads the business intelligence team at Technology Evaluation Centers as their principal analyst. He authored their BI Buyer’s Guide last year and regularly publishes his think pieces on their blog, where he both entertains and informs with titles like “Enterprise Performance Management: Not That Popular But Still Bloody Relevant.”

 

 

Claudia Imhoff

Claudia Imhoff, PhD, is the founder and president of the Boulder BI Brain Trust d/b/a Intelligent Solutions, a collection of consultants, analysts, and experts dedicated to helping companies leverage BI. She’s also an advisor and faculty member for The Data Warehousing Institute and a widely sought-after keynote speaker. We recommend her podcast, available through iTunes, which features conversations with BI vendors about their technologies and the industry; it’s a great way to stay up to date during your morning commute.

 

 

Timothy King

Solutions Review reports on the latest developments in enterprise technology, and Timothy King leads their Business Intelligence, Data Integration, and Data Management areas of focus. Having been recognized for this thought leadership in Big Data, King makes that content readily available on Solution Review’s business intelligence blog. He also edits their BI Buyer’s Guide, which currently gives insight into 28 enterprise solutions and their key features.

 

 

Yves Mulkers

A major influencer in the BI space, Yves Mulkers is a member of the Boulder BI Brain Trust (BBBT) and founder of 7wData, a content aggregation platform for all-things-data. He’s also very active on Medium, where you can find articles like “11 Business Intelligence Trends to Watch.”

 

 

John Myers

John L Myers is Managing Research Director of Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing at Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), a leading industry analyst and consulting firm headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. John delivers comprehensive coverage of the business intelligence and data warehouse industry with a focus on database management, data integration, data visualization, and process management solutions. His work is informed by over a decade of experience with business analytics implementations associated with the telecommunications industry. Rita Sallam
